For me, it depends on the person and definitely the upkeep. My husband used to keep a little "scruff" and I always liked that. He shaved completely once and NOPE. He looked like a baby!! It was at that point I put my foot down and said please do not ever do that again haha. He's already 16 years my junior, I couldn't have that nonsense haha.

Usually, I'm not a fan of the 'in between', either be clean shaven, or have a beard, but with him, the scruffiness worked.

Now that he's been in prison for a bit, he's let his beard grow because the barber there sucks. He doesn't know how to properly trim a beard and they don't exactly have access to clippers on their own. And I do like the long beard on him. He does his best to keep it tamed and it looks good. He hasn't decided if he'll keep it once he comes home.
