Stop Saying Porn is Killing All Women — You Sound Ridiculous

Yes, there is violence in porn but you’re laying blame in the wrong place.

A story popped up on my For You page here a few weeks ago, and of course, the clickbait headline caught my attention when it so brazenly touted that porn is killing *all* women. I’m not going to link it, it’s pretty easy to find if you want to give it a read. I try not to give much credence to articles when the author doesn’t cite references to the studies they quote, and quote ridiculously large percentages when they state things like, “85 percent of all men do such and such” and “90 percent of all women do so and so.” (not real quotes, but pretty damn close)

While pornography has its issues, like most anything else in this world, it isn’t the cause of death for all women — not even remotely. Though some films may promote violence and non-consent, that’s also prevalent in traditional media as well. I really enjoy Outlander, but I am also aware of how often rape and violence towards others occurs throughout the series. Is it more acceptable because it’s not pornographic?

The films themselves aren’t committing violence. When it happens, it’s a human being perpetuating the crime, capable of making the choice between right and wrong. But it’s easier to blame something the…
