Women Crying in Their Cars on Social Media Isn’t About Low Marriage Prospects

It’s about lack of community and support.

Sometime in September, a 46-year-old woman posted a tearful video of herself, crying in her car on TikTok. Yes, she was bemoaning being single at her age and mentioned how she wished she had a husband to take care of her, as she was soon to be going for surgery and didn’t want to still rely on her mother for care at her age.

There have been a number of articles written about this video since it’s gone viral, the best of which came from my dear friend, Yael Wolfe. She talks about the real problem being not the lack of a husband, which I wholeheartedly agree with, but lack of community and support. And I wanted to expand on that from my own personal experience.

I’m not single. I’ve been partnered/married for over seven years. I also have a boyfriend and girlfriend. So I definitely don’t lack people I love and who love me in my life. However, what I do lack currently are any of those people in my immediate vicinity. My husband is in…
